Welcome to David Bolander Psychotherapy
A warm, safe, collaborative space for adults working through emotional distress and patterns like self‑criticism, shutdown, overwhelm, or difficulty connecting — a place to slow down and explore what’s beneath the surface
Therapy can be a place where your emotional world begins to make sense.
Where patterns that once protected you can be understood with compassion.
Where your needs, fears, and longings can be held together without judgment.
Where new emotional experiences replace old cycles of shame or shutdown.
Where you begin to feel more connected — to yourself and to others

🧑⚕️About Me
Hi, I’m David Bolander, LMHCA, MACMHC—an Indiana‑based psychotherapist.
I became a therapist because I love sitting with someone, hearing their story, and being present as the parts that feel tender, vulnerable, or long‑hidden begin to take shape. There’s something meaningful about the connection that forms in that space — the way insight, emotion, and presence move between two people.
For me, becoming a therapist felt like the natural culmination of my own experiences and struggles coming together in the right way. I love the relational connection, the trust, the shared exploration, and the process of making meaning together. I love helping people navigate what they’re going through — and I love that this work grows me too. It helps me feel connected to something bigger than myself.
In our work together, I bring that lived understanding to help you feel seen, supported, and able to move toward a grounded, meaningful life — one that genuinely feels worth living.
My work is rooted in the belief that emotional clarity and connection create the conditions for healing. When you understand your internal world — your patterns, your emotions, your needs — you can begin to shift it. I integrate this deeper emotional exploration with evidence‑based skills that strengthen regulation, flexibility, and connection.
I especially love working with LGBTQ+ clients and creating a space where authenticity, belonging, and emotional safety are at the center of the work. I bring not only my clinical training but also my lived experience, values, and humanity into the room. Therapy with me is collaborative, steady, and deeply respectful of your story.
If you’re looking for a therapist who will meet you with warmth, curiosity, and a clear sense of direction, I’d be honored to work with you.

🌱 Relational Therapy
Inclusive of all relational structures—couples, thruples, polyamorous, and ethically non-monogamous partnerships.
🧭 Therapeutic Approach
My approach is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Attachment Theory. I help people understand the emotional patterns that guide their lives — the places they shut down, reach out, protect, or long for connection — and work with those patterns in a compassionate, experiential way.
Sessions move at a steady, thoughtful pace. We create a space where you can feel safe enough to explore your emotions, understand your needs, and begin to shift long‑standing relational patterns from the inside out.
🌱 What this looks like in practice
In our work together, we might:
Slow down and tune into your emotional experience so you can notice what’s happening inside with more clarity and compassion.
Track the patterns that show up in your relationships — including the protective strategies that once helped you cope.
Make sense of your emotional signals so they feel less overwhelming and more understandable.
Work with the deeper needs underneath your reactions, shutdowns, or anxieties.
Create new emotional experiences that help you feel safer, more connected, and more grounded.
Strengthen your ability to regulate and respond rather than react or collapse.
